Feb 01, 2011: There is a debate on God. The debate will continue till kingdom come. In the meantime, there is money to be made. Bhagavan Krishna says that He is the Right Argument. Hinduism takes matter, all kinds of men and women, fauna and flora in its fold. Even the spineless amoeba can evolve into a human being and attain god. It is the evolution of the soul, as the body changes from amoeba to human being over innumerable births and rebirths. It is like a person changing his shirt everyday. If someone insists on a proof, there is nothing to be had. Does any one know his parents, his date of birth, his place of birth, his first cry, his first meal...until he is told by his parents or others? If one is abandoned at birth or later, and raised by another, he will not have any of these information. We believe our parents. How can one be sure they are our parents? From time immemorial until DNA test came, we accepted the words of our parents. In similar manner, the spiritual parents are the seers, Yogis, prophets.... It is your loss, if you do not believe in them.

The inner core of the body is the soul, which also evolves along with the body--from the amoebic body and soul to human body and soul. The soul in amoeba is immature and mature in man and yet it is full of impurities. You don't have to believe in any of these things. You are already a human being, the highest state before liberation, provided one lives a life of Dharma. Bhagavan embraces a moral atheist and gives him liberation. The amoral or immoral theist will have to be born again and again until his soul matures and is divested of impurities (மலம் = Malam). God condescends to the one who loves Him. But God does not care whether you believe in Him or not, whether you fear Him or not, whether you love Him or not,.... The sun does not care whether a sight-impaired person believes or not in its ability to give off light. He shines for him and all others. What Bhagavan cares for and insists on, is Dharma, which is the cure for repeated births and rebirths, the cause of which is Karma. Does it matter whether a patient loves, likes or believes in the medicine or not? As long as he takes it, he is cured. Dharma is the correct personal, interpersonal, private and public behavior in relation to everything, every person, and every object. What is natural, normal and ethical is dharma: Water quenches thirst; the teacher teaches; the physician heals....This is what we call Sattva: Virtue, goodness. What is contradictory is Adharma: Tamas, that is darkness, sloth, slumber, evil. What drives these modes is Rajas: the motor behind Sattva or Tamas. Man driven by Sattva is higher man, whether he believes in God or not. Man driven by Tamas, though a theist, is a lower man. Sattvic Atheist can certainly attain liberation, while Tamasic theist does not. Remember the killings in the name of religion. The killer-theists do not attain liberation. The virtuous atheists or anti-theists do attain liberation. Sattva or Virtue is God; God is Virtue. You can argue it is not true and yet virtue is the highest morality, which is equated with divinity or God. All these precepts acquired a religious label in Hindu religion.

There is always a question: How a killer can escape punishment and die of natural causes without being identified and punished? This is the question from the dawn of humanity. Hinduism believes in Karma. You don't have to believe in Karma and yet everyone is haunted and pursued by Karma every second of his life. If you eat rotten food, you get stomach upset: That is cause and effect. The effect is immediate in a matter of hours. If the cause is insidious like exposure to radiation, the effect takes some time to show up. Likewise every act carries an effect within it. Some effects occur sooner and some effects later. The effects may not affect a person until the next birth, though he escaped punishment for his bad act in this birth and failed to receive reward for his meritorious act. That is Karma and its fruits.
